Day after protest, DTU expels two

The Delhi Technological University (DTU) on Thursday singled out two final year students for expulsion following a mass agitation by its students against the change of status of Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) to DTU. In a press statement on Friday, DTU alleged that the agitation had been precipitated by a ‘‘certain misunderstanding d by the authorities of Delhi University’’.

Hansraj College shut after students death

A day after a 23-year-old visually challenged student of Hansraj College in Delhi University was found hanging in his hostel room, the college administration Wednesday called a meeting of the hostel committee to look into the matter. The college was closed Wednesday.

Placement picks up at DU

The central placement drive in Delhi University began on Monday with 88 students receiving job offers on the first day itself. As many as 11 companies have registered this year for visiting the campus to hire students from all streams. While two companies HDFC Stardard Life and Akash Educational Services met students on Monday, Tech Mahindra, NDPL, Genpact, HCL BPO, Capital IQ are expected to visit the campus till February 2. A total of 893 students had registered on Monday out of which 385 gave interviews. According to officials from the Central Placement Cell, 88 students were hired by HDFC Standard Life on Monday for the sales profile with a starting salary package of Rs 2.45 lakh. "Eight others have been shortlisted by Akash Educational Services for a final round later. Their cost to company is likely to start from Rs 5.8 lakh, said CPC chairperson Seema M Parihar. She added, "There seems to be a huge opportunity for science students. Akash is willing to come again for more students. Nearly 3,000 students from various colleges and departments have registered for central placement this time.
