The central placement drive in Delhi University began on Monday with 88 students receiving job offers on the first day itself. As many as 11 companies have registered this year for visiting the campus to hire students from all streams. While two companies HDFC Stardard Life and Akash Educational Services met students on Monday, Tech Mahindra, NDPL, Genpact, HCL BPO, Capital IQ are expected to visit the campus till February 2.

A total of 893 students had registered on Monday out of which 385 gave interviews. According to officials from the Central Placement Cell, 88 students were hired by HDFC Standard Life on Monday for the sales profile with a starting salary package of Rs 2.45 lakh. "Eight others have been shortlisted by Akash Educational Services for a final round later. Their cost to company is likely to start from Rs 5.8 lakh, said CPC chairperson Seema M Parihar. She added, "There seems to be a huge opportunity for science students. Akash is willing to come again for more students. Nearly 3,000 students from various colleges and departments have registered for central placement this time.

Said Parihar, "The response from companies is really good as compared to last year when the companies were hit by recession. Students are also hoping to make a promising career through CPC. Said Kanika Malhotra, a third-year student of Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce in Pitampura, "CPC is a great platform as its to students of all colleges. I want to get into social work after college, thats why I am excited about taking part in the placement process of Pravah, an NGO.

CPC had earlier organized a session for placements in November last year. While two companies hired 44 students, others are still in the process of confirming the candidates, Parihar said.

Tech Mahindra and NDPL are expected on the campus on January 27. The companies will first give a presentation which may be followed by a written test. The shortlisted candidates will sit for a group discussion. "The students should strictly turn up in formal clothes and make sure they are aware about the current affairs. Some companies want a minimum cut-off marks of 70 in class XII. So read up the CPC website before participating. Also carry two copies of the resume for each company, advised Parihar. She added, "Students should keep in mind that besides everything, companies mainly look for the right attitude and strong communication ss.
